InterVue: AI-Powered Interview Preparation
Overview
InterVue is an AI-powered interview preparation platform designed to help job seekers master behavioral and situational questions through personalized practice. By combining resume and job description analysis, structured mock interviews, and real-time feedback, InterVue enables users to reflect on their experiences, improve their storytelling, and build confidence. It offers tailored question sets and performance tracking to support continuous growth throughout the job application process.
Target Users
Recent graduates and early-career professionals applying for internships or full-time positions—especially in competitive fields like IT, finance, healthcare and more. These users often have relevant experience but struggle to articulate it confidently in interviews and are seeking efficient, data-driven, and personalized preparation tools.
Learning Problem
Many qualified job seekers underperform in interviews not due to a lack of experience, but due to weak self-expression, unclear storytelling, or unfamiliarity with behavioral interview formats. Generic preparation resources fail to adapt to individual contexts or job descriptions. InterVue addresses this gap by turning interview prep into an interactive, structured experience driven by users’ real experiences and target roles.
🧩 Design Thinking Process
1. Empathize
We conducted empathy interviews with international students and recent graduates preparing for job interviews. Through qualitative analysis, we identified four core user pain points:
● Language barriers and low confidence, especially in English interviews.
● Reliance on generic preparation resources with little personalization.
● Lack of realistic interview practice under pressure.
● Concerns over data privacy with AI tools (e.g., facial recognition, voice data).
These insights shaped our understanding of the emotional and functional needs of our users.
2. Define
Based on user insights, we articulated our problem statement:
“How might we help job-seeking graduates build interview confidence by offering personalized, realistic, and private interview preparation tools?”
Our target users are young job seekers (age 20–35) with some internship experience, facing interview anxiety and seeking structured, AI-enhanced coaching that respects their privacy.
3. Ideate
We brainstormed solutions that directly addressed the identified pain points. Three core features emerged:
● Question Bank
A personalized database that generates relevant questions based on the user’s resume and job description. Questions are categorized into Background and Behavioral, offering tailored and focused practice.
● Interview Mock
Interview Mock offers two modes—Daily Practice and Advanced Simulation—both powered by an AI-generated virtual interviewer.
Daily Practice Mode: Designed to help users build a consistent interview practice habit and maintain their sense of language flow, this mode offers a few essential questions each day. Users have one minute to prepare for each question, followed by immediate AI-generated feedback after each response. This reflective cycle supports users in identifying areas for improvement and tracking progress over time.
Advanced Simulation Mode: Tailored for users seeking an immersive, high-pressure mock interview experience. There is no preparation time or breaks between questions—users answer their chosen number of questions in a continuous session, replicating the intensity of a real interview. At the end, the system provides comprehensive feedback on overall performance.
● Community
A peer-driven space where users can share and explore real interview questions and experiences by company, industry, and role—fostering communication and mutual learning.
4. Prototype
We designed a high-fidelity prototype in Figma to visualize the end-to-end experience:
Resume and job description upload interfaces enabling the AI to generate tailored practice materials.
The home page that users enter upon logging in has a data dashboard that tracks and visualizes user performance; the menu bar on the left side allows users to access the Question Bank, Interview Mock, Community Forum, Document Center (where you can update your resume and job descriptions), and Switch Profile (when you need to prepare for more than one job).
Question Bank offers a curated collection of commonly asked interview questions, customized by role, industry and difficulty levels.
Interview Mock features two dynamic modes—Daily Practice for quick, focused warm-ups, and Advanced Simulation for full-length, high-pressure mock interviews that mirror real-world scenarios.
The Community Forum enables users to learn from peer-shared interview experiences at top companies like Google, fostering insight and mutual support.
5. Test
We conducted both qualitative and A/B testing with users of varying experience levels, click to see more about the process and result:
● Qualitative Feedback Summary
Ease of Navigation: 3 out of 5 users found the platform easy to navigate. Minor issues included a hard-to-spot “Get Started” button and the absence of a “Back” button on each page.
Functionality Effectiveness: Most users found the core features helpful for interview practice. Suggestions included expanding dashboard insights (e.g., tone and pacing feedback), enriching the community section with real interview experiences, and adding privacy pop-ups before recordings begin.
AI-Generated Questions & Feedback: Users appreciated the personalized AI features but wanted more variety in question options, model answers with breakdowns, and more specific feedback (e.g., quoting user responses to clarify improvement areas).
Areas of Confusion: Some users found the dashboard layout unnecessary or too long-term in focus. Suggestions included replacing dot plots with trend charts and shortening the performance window to 3–7 days. Users also requested an AI chatbot on the homepage for better onboarding. In the advanced mock interview, “Pause” and “Stop” buttons were unclear.
Favorite Features: Users highlighted the interview mock (realistic experience), the community (rare among prep tools), the mixed-difficulty question bank, and personalized feedback as the most valuable components.
● A/B Testing Summary
To test job-switching functionality, two designs were evaluated.
Version A (Profile-Based Switching):
All 5 testers found switching buried in the profile dropdown unintuitive. Average satisfaction: 3.7/5. UI/UX experts pointed out that some features might add cognitive load.
Version B (Document-Centered Switching):
Better suited for experienced users, with mixed performance among novices. Average satisfaction: 3.25/5—scoring high (4.5/5) for experienced users and low (2.75/5) for others.
Shared Pain Points:
Both versions lacked clear visual hierarchy, used confusing labels (e.g., “Switch Account”), and provided insufficient onboarding. Users recommended a folder/workspace model for managing multiple job prep tracks, aligning with familiar project management tools.
6. Iteration
The homepage now features a more organized structure separating key features for easier navigation, with clearer messaging tailored to user concerns and a refreshed, modern visual design.!img
The Resume & JD Analysis section improves personalization by clearly showing extracted resume-job info and areas for growth, while a streamlined interface highlights only the most relevant content.
The Personalized Dashboard now integrates a calendar for targeted performance tracking and includes interactive visual graphs to monitor skill-based progress over time.
The Document Center enhances file management by replacing the “Switch” option with a favoriting system, improving how users organize and access important documents.
Account Switching and Job Preparation History features allow seamless toggling between different job roles and tracking of prep history across companies.
InterBot, the new AI assistant, offers instant help with onboarding, platform features, and interview tips to support new users throughout their journey.
By leveraging AI, InterVue offers a personalized, adaptive, and immersive practice experience—empowering users to practice effectively, reduce anxiety, and approach real interviews with confidence.
